Bathinda, August 20

State Revenue Minister Gurpreet Singh Kangar today launched the ambitious Sarbat Sehat Bima Yojana that promises free medical treatment up to Rs 5 lakh per annum to its beneficiaries.

Speaking at the event, Kangar said the scheme covers 1.40 lakh families in Mansa district and 7 lakh individuals who would get free treatment at government and private empanelled hospitals of the district.

He said six government hospitals and four private empanelled hospitals would be offering these services in the district. More private empanelled hospitals would be added in the future, providing best treatment to the needy.

He said around 1,396 diseases were being covered under the scheme. To get its benefits, a person has to approach common service centres for which 103 such centres had been established in Mansa district. At the centres, beneficiaries can locate their names on the lists and get smart cards issued simultaneously.

The minister said besides, ‘Aarogya Mitras’ (wellness friends) had been deputed at various health facilities.

Anyone visiting government or private empanelled hospitals should meet ‘Aarogya Mitras’ who already have lists of beneficiaries and would be able to provide complete information and guidance about the scheme.

Kangar also made a token distribution of smart cards to three beneficiaries.

Speaking on the occasion, Mansa Deputy Commissioner Apneet Riyait said the scheme comes as a major relief for those who could not spend enough funds for their treatment.

She said names of additional members of families too could be added to the list for which people should contact their nearest common service centres along with required documents. Mansa MLA Nazar Singh Manshahia, SSP Narendra Bhargava, ADC (G) Rajdeep Singh Brar, GA Navdeep Kumar, Civil Surgeon Lal Chand Thakral and Congress leader Manoj Bala were among those others present.
