Rewari district has bagged the first rank at the national level in Swachhta Darpan Phase III-2019 under the Swachh Bharat Mission, scoring 100 out of 100 in all three parameters.

Sources said around 700 districts across the nation had participated and their performance was calculated on the basis of three parameters: open defecation free (ODF) declaration (40 per cent weightage), information, education and communication (40 per cent weightage), and solid and liquid waste management (20 per cent weightage).

Rewari shared first position with seven other districts, six from Telangana and one from Gujarat, while three other districts of Haryana were among the top 10 districts. Karnal achieved third rank scoring 99.97, followed by Bhiwani with eighth rank and 98.13 score and Kaithal with 10th rank and 95.58 score.

“We have toiled hard to obtain 100 per cent score in all three parameters. Community toilets were constructed in all 412 villages of the district while community compost and soak pits have also been set up in all villages with the support of panchayats. Billboards spreading awareness on the use of toilets were also put up in all villages,” said Pradeep Dahiya, Additional Deputy Commissioner.

He maintained their next aim was to secure first position in ‘Swachh Survekshan Grameen-2019’ — a national survey that reviews the progress of the cleanliness drive in rural areas. Last year, Rewari got the second position in the survey, he added.

“We are enthused about achieving the top position in Swachhta Darpan. A function will be held in Rewari on August 26 to celebrate the achievement,” he said.
