In Haryana, the water level of the Yamuna river has recorded the highest increase in history to date because of continuous rain for the past few days.

In view of flood situation, 25 families have been evacuated from Sonepat and Karnal districts. The state government claims to have made arrangements to deal with any adverse situation.

Chief Secretary Keshni Anand Arora said this through video-conferencing in a review meeting held here on Tuesday on flood situation in Haryana, Punjab, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh and Delhi.

Arora said, “In 2013, 8.14 lakh cusecs of water was recorded in the Yamuna, which was the highest then. But due to above average rains in the past few days, the water level in the Yamuna has increased to 8.28 lakh cusecs. The Yamuna waters will reach Delhi by Tuesday evening and administrative officials of New Delhi have already been alerted about this.”

The officer said that after Delhi, water would reach Faridabad and Palwal districts. “About 500 families have already been evacuated from low-lying areas of the two districts. Markanda, Tangri and Ghaggar rivers have also recorded a slight increase in water level. But now, water is receding,” she added.
