Fatehabad, August 20

Using innovative techniques, the authorities in Fatehabad district have been able to revive EDUSAT, a satellite-based education system, lying unused for over a decade.

The revived EDUSAT, though not exactly working through satellite, is attracting schoolchildren since it is providing education through videos.

“The EDUSAT TVs were already provided since 2008, but were not effectively used. This project has been initiated to make all EDUSATs operational in all government schools of Fatehabad from classes I to VIII for achieving grade-level competencies under the Saksham Haryana project,” said Monica Hemrajani, Chief Minister’s Good Governance Associate for Fatehabad district.

She said no extra cost would be incurred in making these EDUSATs operational. The existing grants provided to schools under ‘Samagra Shiksha’ would be utilised. The cost of making these systems operational was around Rs 2,000 per school.

She said e-content was being developed by the District Institute of Education and Training. Separate class-wise and subject-wise packages of e-content were being prepared. These would be provided in pen drives.

These could be shared through mobile phones of teachers using screen mirroring. This would reduce dependency on live streaming, which was a hindrance in making these EDUSATs   operational previously.

Dhirendra Khadgata, Deputy Commissioner, Fatehabad, said information and communication technology (ICT) was one such mode of education that used information and communication technology to support, enhance and optimise the delivery of information.

He said by September, EDUSATs would be revised in all 300-odd schools of the district. He said worldwide research had shown that the ICT could lead to improved student learning and better teaching methods.

A report made by the National Institute of Multimedia Education in Japan proved that an increase in the use of the ICT in education with integrating technology to the curriculum had a significant and positive impact on students’ achievements.

The results specifically showed that the students who were continuously exposed to technology through education had better knowledge, presentation skills and innovative capabilities and were ready to take more efforts into learning.
