Dharamsala, August 20

HPCC president Kuldeep Rathore said today that the name of Sudhir Sharma is not final for the coming Dharamsala Assembly byelection.

He said this during a programme organised here to mark the birth anniversary of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi. While the function was attended by the HPCC president, the local Congress leader and former minister Sharma was absent.

Sharma is being considered the best bet for the Congress for the byelection.

Rathore said the party high command would decide the name. About the absence of Sharma, Rathore said he was ill.

Interestingly, speculation was rife regarding Sudhir Sharma joining the BJP and contesting as party candidate from Dharamsala. In a release, he, however, dismissed the speculation.

Rathore took on the government over the constable recruitment racket. He said it had raised serious questions over recruitments being carried out in government departments. An inquiry could expose the names of many white-collar people.

The HPCC president also raised questions over the drive launched by the state government to attract investment. He said the way the government was entering into MoUs, it seemed to be a ploy to given government lands to outsiders.

If the government wanted to give land for making schools in Kangra, it should invite online tenders from people instead of offering land to a chosen few through MoUs, he said.
