Bathinda police claimed to have arrested a doctor in a case of damaging of lords’ idols in a temple located at Santpura Road.

While addressing a press conference, IGP MF Farooqui and SSP Nanak Singh said: “On August 18, police got the information that somebody has damaged idols of lord Ganesha, Mata Parvati, lord Kartiken and Nandi Maharaj at the Sarojgiri Temple located at Santpura Road. Besides, four cars had also been damaged in Vishal Nagar.”

Acting on the complaint, the police registered a case against an unidentified person on the statement of Raj Kumar Singla, resident of Santpura Road. Police constituted various teams under DSP Gurjit Singh Romana to crack the case and arrest the accused.

Farooqui said the Kotwali police station SHO, Davinder Singh, and SI Balkaran Singh arrested the accused, Dr Santokh Singh (52), a resident of Vishal Nagar. During interrogation, it was also found that the accused was a mentally upset patient and was undergoing treatment under Dr Jaswant Singh at Guru Gobind Singh Medical College, Faridkot.

Police officials also claimed that the accused had done his MBBS from Rajindra Medical College, Patiala. Santokh had taken voluntarily retirement from his government job in 2018 and had been running his own clinic at Bucho since then.
