Bathinda, August 19

A portion of the service road of Barnala Bypass Road is posing a threat to commuters. The authorities had dug up the portion to clean the sewerage system, but they have forgotten to repair it.

If passers-by are to be believed, two mishaps are reported on the stretch on a daily basis. Now, a sense of fear is prevailing among bikers as it becomes difficult for them to spot the dug-up portion in rain.

Suresh Kumar, a motorist, said, “I have seen a number of people who had a narrow escape on the dug-up portion. The authorities should have repaired it. I don’t get the idea of digging it up and not repairing it later. Why the work has been put on hold.”

Jashanpreet, a resident, said, “Dilapidated roads have become a feature of this city. The situation is not confined to a portion of this stretch. The constant downpour has battered roads in several areas. Residents have been left to witness a repeat of the last year. I get scared when I take out my motorcycle in rain. Many roads such as Bibi Wala are crying for attention.”

When contacted, Mayor Balwant Rai Nath said, “I had written a letter to the authorities concerned to get these roads road repaired. Hopefully, it will be done soon. If this will not happen, I will speak to the CM in this regard.”— TNS
