Ludhiana: CT University held an orientation programme for students of Moptometry. Dr Brijinder Singh Rana, managing director at Rana Hospital, was the speaker fo rthe event. He is an eminent eye surgeon with experience of more than 15 years. He told students that this course would make them theoretically strong and practically skilful. To provide its students practical experience, the university also has a tie up with Rana Hospital.

Investiture held

To promote young leadership, Government College for Girls held a function to mark the instalation of the student council for the session 2019-20. Principal Manju Sahni and vice-principal Varinderjit Kaur gave away sashes and badges to 70 students of the council. Principal addressed the students and motivated them to work hard for the betterment of their personality and the college. 

Talent Hunt organised

Gujranwala Guru Nanak Khalsa College, Civil Lines, organised a talent hunt competition for the new students. Students participated in various activities such as stand-up comedy, acting, poetry recitation, dance, modeling, among many others. SP Singh, former vice-chancellor, Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar, addressed the students and told them about the heritage of the institution. Principal Arvinder Singh applauded the efforts of the students.

Induction programme

The postgraduate department of commerce and management of GHG Khalsa College, Gurusar Sadhar, organised an induction programme for the newly admitted students of BBA, BCom. and MCom. Principal Jaswant Singh inaugurated the programme and laid emphasis on the need for quality education, proper utilisation of time and importance of self-discipline. Students were apprised about academics, extra-curricular activities and career opportunities provisded by the college.

MCom Semester-IV results

Students of of Kamla Lohtia SD College have brought laurels to the college by excelling in MCom (Entrepreneurship and Family Business) Semester IV examinations, results of which were declared by Panjab University, Chandigarh. Jashanpreet stood first in the university with 1886/2400 marks, followed by Arushi Grover and Deepika with 1828 and 1812 marks, respectively.

Plantation drive 

The PCTE Group of Institutes initiated a project, Green Ludhiana, under which 150 students of hotel management course planted nearly 1,500 saplings in the city. The aim of the project was to make the students aware of their social responsibility towards environment. Japreet Kaur Pannu, Assistant Professor at the university, said the main motive of the entire project was to encourage students to understand that human activities have adversely affected the environment and it was high time that they buckled up and took initiatives to save the environment.

Kalsa College girls bring laurels

It was a moment of pride for the Khalsa College for Women when university toppers from various streams of post graduate and undergraduate courses were invited to the college to share their success stories and inspire other students. Around 50 students from various streams secured their places in the top ten merit list of the university, in the recently declared results by Punjab University, Chandigarh. Cheerful faces beaming with joy and pride gathered in the college and got themselves clicked with their heads of departments by media persons during a press conference arranged for them.

BSc (Fashion Designing) Sem-IV results

Declaration of BSc (Fashion Designing) Semester-IV results by Panjab University, Chandigarh, was a matter of pride for Guru Nanak Girls College, Model Town. Simran clinched first position in the university by securing 95.3 per cent. Manpreet Kaur clinched second position in the college and seventh in the university with 92.1 per cent. Arneet Kaur secured third position in the college and eighth in the university with 92 per cent.

Session on cooking skills

The department of food science and technology, Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), organised a talk on “choosing right oil for cooking” by Isha Vashisht, director of sales and marketing, AP Solvex Limited. She discussed the importance of rice bran oil and its health benefits. She tols students how to choose the right cooking oil for daily nutrition purposes. She talked about SFA, MUFA and PUFA and their importance in fats and oils. She also threw light on the importance of consuming fat and its role in weight loss as an important ingredient in keto diets. Poonam Sachdev, head of the department, welcomed the guest speaker.
