27 attend training in fish farming at GADVASU

LUDHIANA:A total of 27 aspiring youth, women and entrepreneurs from Punjab and Haryana attended a five-day training programme in fish farming, organised by College of Fisheries, Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (GADVASU).

A total of 27 aspiring youth, women and entrepreneurs from Punjab and Haryana attended a five-day training programme in fish farming, organised by College of Fisheries, Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (GADVASU). 

Meera D Ansal, course coordinator of the training programme and head of Department of Aquaculture, said such type of training programmes were being organised with the aim to provide self-employment skills to various stakeholders such as unemployed youth, rural women and farming community. The training programme also focused on updating scientific skills of fish farmers with new technologies for maintaining sustainably optimised production levels. 

Technical coordinators Abhishek Srivastava and Sachin Khairnar briefed trainees on construction of pond, stocking and management of pond and its harvesting and marketing. Demonstration-cum-practical sessions were also organised for seed handling, stocking, water quality management, feed formulation and manufacturing, health management practices and disease diagnosis and treatment in respect to various species of fish. A practical training in fish processing for preservation and value addition was also given to the trainees. The speakers laid emphasis on the importance of mass media in creating an effective market for their produce.

Harish Kumar Verma, director, Extension Education, GADVASU, urged farmers to acquire scientific skills and remain attached with the university for reaping maximum economic benefits from their landholdings through various livestock farming practices in a sustainable manner.
