Faridabad/Palwal, August 19
With a surge in the water level in the Yamuna, the authorities in Faridabad and Palwal have sounded an alert in villages located close to the river.
“We have posted officials and set up a control room after reports of release of 8.14 lakh cusecs of water from the Hathni Kund barrage in Yamunanagar district on Sunday night. The water level is expected to go up sharply in the next two or three days,” said Naresh Kumar, District Revenue Officer in Faridabad.
He said the administration was on full alert and prepared to meet any exigency with 25 villages in Faridabad district located close to the Yamuna.
He pointed out that the river tended to change its course. He said excess water could flood low-lying areas as farming had been going on on the extended riverbed for the past several years.
The authorities in Palwal conducted a survey of the area prone to flooding in case of a surge in the water level. The SDMs of Palwal and Hodal visited some villages on Monday to assess the situation. — TNS
