“Catch them young” is Gurugram’s latest mantra for inculcating in people respect for traffic rules. The Road Safety Committee has started taking regular classes on the subject  in government schools. Under a special drive called “Road Safety and Juniors”, classes  have successfully been conducted on a pilot basis  in a government school at Chakkarpur village. Now, the classes are being conducted in other schools as well. While government schools are being targeted in the first phase, private schools will be the focus in the second phase.

The District Road Safety Committee headed by Additional Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Raza will visit government middle, high and senior secondary schools. “As a trial after the morning prayers, a session was started in a school and students were sensitised about the need to obey traffic rules. Issues such as the importance of fastening a seat belt, wearing a helmet while driving a vehicle, red lights, hazards of triple riding were dealt with. We also held an interactive session with their parents and teachers. The response from the school was encouraging  and we would now visit other schools,” said Mohammad Raza. The committee is also working on 21 accident black spots.
