After Kashmir-based political stalwarts were placed under house arrest on August 6, some Jammu-based leaders themselves urged senior police officials to place them under house arrest so as to get political mileage. As some leaders have influence in the Police Department, they utilised their own links to convince senior officers to place them under house arrest. Some leaders themselves approached media persons to ‘break’ the news about their house arrest. A little known PDP leader has himself clicked a picture and circulated the same among mediapersons to spread the message that he had been placed under house arrest. 

Students happy with opening of tele-counselling helpline

For students of state-run schools, the launching of tele-counselling helpline by the Directorate of School Education (DSEJ) is a new experience to get guidance regarding stress-related issues among them. Despite facing problems in making calls or opening website due to Internet shutdown, the students are happy that at least they can now put forth their issues. The school directorate after receiving some complaints is making sure that it runs smoothly for the benefit of the students. 

Rumours increase administration’s worry

With the withdrawal of mobile Internet in five districts of Jammu, rumours  have increased the worry of the administration. Phones of all officials and control rooms began ringing incessantly, as different rumours began spreading in the city after the mobile internet was snapped. There were different stories of untoward incidents from different areas, but no such incidents had occurred anywhere in the state.

Annoyed Jammu residents seek restoration of Internet facility

The absence of Internet facility in Jammu has been annoying the people of the area who allege that despite being supportive of all government decisions, it (The government) is depriving them of the facility in the ongoing festive season. According to them, there has not been a single act of violence or oppression in Jammu since the abrogation of Article 370, instead Jammu celebrated the government decisions with great zeal and enthusiasm. Depriving them of the Internet facility was hampering many important things, especially the education of children. The people are now looking forward to the state administration to restore the facility.
