Unlike previous years, wherein the higher education department invited eligible candidates for engagement on an academic arrangement basis for over 30 subjects in government degree colleges of Jammu, this year, the arrangement will be made for as many as 41 subjects/streams.

Sources said with the opening of new government colleges in Jammu city, the strength of candidates for engaging them on academic arrangement had also been increased with an addition in subjects.

They said a majority of candidates would be deployed in the newly opened colleges where there was a shortage of permanent faculty. Even the existing government colleges are grappling with the similar problem.

Some of the subjects for which the candidates have applied online for engagement include Arabic, biotechnology, botany, business administration, chemistry, commerce, computer applications, Dogri, economics, education, electronics, English/English literature/functional English, environmental science, fisheries, Hindi, history, home science, Islamic studies, philosophy, psychology, Urdu, zoology, water management, physics, physical education, etc.

“The admission process has completed in all government colleges, including the new ones, and the classes are also running. There is more requirement of academic arrangement in new colleges which at present are running from makeshift buildings in existing government colleges and schools,” a higher education department official said.

“Last year, the candidates were engaged on an academic arrangement basis in 38 subjects but in this academic session, the subject strength has been increased,” the official added.

Prof Kaushal Smotra, Principal, GGM Science College, told The Tribune, “The process has already been started for engagement of candidates on academic arrangement. The classes have started in all colleges so that the syllabus is finished on time and students get ample time to prepare for semester exams.”
