A woman was found dead at her house located in fields at Kotguru village in the Sangat Mandi area on Friday night.
The incident came to light on Saturday morning when a few people, who came to take land on lease, reached the deceased’s house.
The deceased has been identified as Sukhpal Kaur (55). The reason behind the death is yet to be ascertained.
After getting information, DSP (Rural) Kuldeep Singh, SHO of Sangar police station Harbans Singh, CIA 1 in-charge Amritpal Singh Bhatti, along with a dog squad, reached the spot for an investigation. Later, the body was sent to the Civil Hospital for a postmortem examination.
According the preliminary investigation, it appears the neck of the woman was strangled with a cloth.
Thereafter, a sharp object was hit on her head.
Earlier, it was stated that thieves murdered the woman with an aim of theft, but the police refuted the claim and said all material in the house was intact.
A case against unidentified persons has been registered on the statement of deceased’s daughter Gurpreet Kaur.
Police officer Harbans Singh said Sukhpal Kaur used to stay alone in her house.
