Patiala, August 17

With heavy rains lashing the district late on Saturday, a few parts were inundated and water entered houses in several parts of the city.

Some streets virtually turned rivers with water entering homes and shops in many parts of the city. The water level in some areas was almost knee-length. A parking lot at Chotti Baradari was brimming with rainwater, making it difficult for people to take out their vehicles from the facility. The problem was acute in low-lying areas of the city. Areas, including Adalat Bazar, Chandni Chowk, Books Market, Model Town, Ajit Nagar, Bahera Road, Tripuri, Raghumajra, Karah Wala Chowk remained submerged under 2-3 ft of water.

"Water started entering my house around 9 pm. There was knee-deep water inside the house and we had to seek refuge in a neighbour's house. There is no way for the water to drain," said a resident of Books Market.

The downpour has also led to panic among city residents as the threat of flood looms large over the city. The city witnessed a flood-like situation when Badi Nadi and Ghaggar river had overtopped last month.
