Kangra, August 14
Resentment prevails among the state government employees, who have been waiting for their accommodation in the “general pool departmental accommodation building” constructed on the bank of Banner river on the Kangra bypass. The delay is being caused as the inauguration has been held up for want of a VVIP for the past more than one-and-half-year after its completion.
The three-storey building was constructed by the PWD at the cost of nearly Rs 1 crore.
Kangra MLA Pawan Kajal said, “People are suffering as many buildings were constructed by the Congress government and the present government was shy of inaugurating these”.
At present, there are 31 type II quarters available for government employees in the town but thousands are waiting for accommodation.
Ajay Khata, president, HP Non Gazetted Officers Federation, Kangra district, demanded immediate inauguration of the building in the interest of the employees. He suggested that if the VVIPs were not available then the building could be inaugurated online.
Adjacent to this building is Kangra fire station building constructed at a cost of more than Rs 2 crore. It is also awaiting inauguration for the past nearly two years.
The previous Congress government constructed the fire station building. It was to be inaugurated by the then Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh in May 2017, but could not be inaugurated due to cancellation of his programme.
