The ongoing face-off between Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and Jammu and Kashmir Governor Satya Pal Malik continued on Wednesday with the former telling the latter that he was ready to visit the state without any pre-condition.
A day after Governor Malik accused Rahul Gandhi of politicising the issue and said he had referred the issue of the Congress leader’s visit to the local administration for review since it came with pre-conditions, Gandhi today said his response was “feeble” and asked when he could visit JK.
“Dear Maalik ji (sic), I saw your feeble reply to my tweet. I accept your invitation to visit Jammu & Kashmir and meet the people, with no conditions attached. When can I come?” he asked in a tweet.
The former Congress president had yesterday said he was taking up the Governor’s offer of visiting the newly-formed UT and would visit along with other Opposition leaders.
Gandhi also said yesterday that he did not want the Governor to arrange an aircraft for his travel and only wanted the freedom to meet local people and soldiers.
The Governor had then made a statement saying since Gandhi’s proposal to visit J&K came with certain pre-conditions, he had referred the matter to local authorities.
The Congress had in its official stand yesterday termed Governor Malik’s offer to Gandhi to visit the state as patronising and urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to immediately open a political dialogue on Jammu and Kashmir and also arrange for an all party delegation to visit there.
