Mohali, August 11
Giving relief to an elderly person, who was charged Rs 64,076 for round-the-clock domestic electricity supply which is provided free of cost under the ‘Dera Dhania Scheme’, the District Consumer Disputes Redressal Forum, Mohali, directed the Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) to pay Rs 15,000 for mental agony and litigation expenses to the complainant.
In his complaint, Jagdish Vohra, 71, a resident of Kishan Pura village, stated that he had applied for 24 hours domestic electricity supply under the ‘Dera Dhania Scheme’ of the Punjab Government. He stated that instead of supplying free electricity, the PSPCL had issued him notice asking him to deposit Rs 64,076, which he deposited on July 31, 2017. “Despite completing all requirements, electricity connection was not provided to him,” the Vohra said. The forum directed the PSPCL to pay a compensation of Rs 10,000 for mental agony and harassment and litigation expenses of Rs 5,000 to the complainant within 30 days from the date of receipt of order. — TNS
