Chief Justice of High Court Justice V Ramasubramanian launched a plantation drive at 17 Mile Road, 26 km from here today. He planted a sapling of cedar tree.
The drive was organised by the District Legal Services Authority under the aegis of the State Legal Services Authority with support from the Forest Department.
Senior Judge of the High Court Justice Dharam Chand Chaudhary also planted a sapling.
Principal Chief Conservator of Forest Ajay Sharma, Deputy Commissioner Richa Verma, SP Gaurav Singh, District and Sessions Judge Purender Vaidya, Conservator Anil Sharma, Secretary, District Legal Services Authority, Anil Sharma and members of the District Bar Association gave out a message to plant saplings and protect the environment.
Ajay Sharma welcomed the Chief Justice and Justice Dharam Chand Chaudhary, honouring them with Himachali cap, shawl and a memento.
Ajay Sharma said a massive plantation campaign was conducted from July 20 to 24 and around 25 lakh saplings were planted with the help of Panchayati Raj Institutions, NGOs, Mahila and Yuvak Mandals, and a large number of schoolchildren. Last year, in a similar campaign, 17 lakh saplings were planted.
As many as 400 saplings were planted by the Indo-Tibetan Border Police, Forest Department, students from nearby schools and of Haripur College during the campaign.
