Chandigarh, August 9
With the state government today notifying the reservation roster for electing the chairmen and vice-chairmen of 22 zila parishads, the ball has been set rolling for the selection of kin of at least two ministers and close aides of a number of MLAs in the panchayati raj body.
Sources said Rural Development Minister Tript Rajinder Singh Bajwa’s son Ravi Nandan Singh is in contention for chairmanship of the Gurdaspur zila parishad and Revenue Minister Sukhbinder Sarkaria’s nephew Dilraj is aiming for the Amritsar zila parishad.
The sources said for the past few weeks, the secretary (political) to the Chief Minister, Sandeep Sandhu, has been engaged with ministers and MLAs to have a consensus on the candidates for their respective zila parishads.
For the last few days, the MLAs had been camping in Chandigarh to make adjustments before the reservation roster was notified. — TNS
