Bathinda, August 8

In the absence of traffic lights, chaos prevails at the Fauji Chowk in the city. The intersection witnesses movement of a large number of vehicles throughout the day.

Residents feel that there is an urgent need for a traffic signal at the intersection. They are of the view that commuters take sharp turns on the road, leading to mishaps.

Moreover, pedestrians find it difficult to pass the intersection with vehicles commuting on the road in the absence of a traffic signal.

A senior traffic police official said the matter would be taken up with the officials concerned.

A biker said, “The long-pending demand for traffic lights at Fauji Chowk is yet to be met. Most of the times, no policeman is deployed at the intersection, which is one of the busiest as far as traffic is concerned. Traffic police personnel should regulate traffic till a signal is installed.”

When contacted, Deputy Superintendent of Police (Traffic) Gurjeet Singh Romana said, “It is a great idea. I would write to the authorities concerned to install traffic lights at Fauji Chowk.”
