Minister opens first-of-its-kind community nursery

Sunder Sham Arora, Cabinet Minister, Punjab, today inaugurated a first-of-its kind ‘Sanjhi Bagichi’ (community nursery) here.

Arora distributed saplings among people near Sashan Chowk, here. He said the saplings should be taken care of as well. He appealed to councillors to come forward to plant 550 saplings in every ward of the city.

He said: “Anyone can get saplings free of cost from the shared garden known as “Sanjhi Bagichi.” A team of 10 persons will be present there, who, besides distributing free saplings, will plant saplings.”

Deputy Commissioner (DC) Isha Kalia and SSP Gaurav Garg were also present. The DC urged that maximum number of saplings should be planted and taken care of to make the drive a success. She said with 550 plants in every village, 7,72, 750 saplings will be planted in 1,405 villages of the district.

On the first day, as many as 9,800 plants were distributed free of cost among the people. Arora appreciated the efforts of the NGOs and social organisations in establishing the ‘Sanjhi Bagichi’.
