Chandigarh: Cash and valuables, including jewellery, were stolen from a house in Burail village in Sector 45. In his complaint to the police, Ladala, a resident of Burail village, reported that Rs 8,000, two mobile phones, a gold mangal sutra and a pair of anklets were stolen from his house on the intervening night of July 20 and 21. The police were informed about the incident. A case in this connection has been registered at the Sector 34 police station. The police have initiated an investigation into it. TNS

Man fails to give tenant info, held

Chandigarh: The UT police have booked a Sarangpur resident for not providing information about a tenant to the police. Pyara Singh, a resident of Sarangpur village, rented out his house, but did not provide information about it to the police. A case under Section 188 of the IPC was registered against him at the Sarangpur police station. He was arrested and later released on bail. TNS

Girl reunited with parents

Chandigarh: The Anti-Human Trafficking Unit of the Woman and Child Safety Unit reunited a 14-year-old girl with her parents on Monday. The teenager was admitted to Aashiana, a home for girls in Sector 15, on May 1 this year. She had escaped from her house in Haryana. The UT police located her parents, who are residents of Shodapur villages in Panipat. TNS

Man’s body found hanging

Panchkula: The local police have found the body of an unidentified man hanging from a tree near Chandimandir here on Monday. The police said the victim appeared to be 28 to 30 years old. No suicide note was recovered. TNS

One held with illicit liquor

Zirakpur: The police have arrested Dheeraj Kumar, a resident of Zirakpur, after recovering 11 bottles of illicit liquor from his car here on Monday. The police also nabbed Suresh Pal and Suraj Bhan, both residents of UP, recovering opium from them. OC

Two held for assault

Ambala: The district police have arrested two persons for assault and threatening complainants with dire consequences in separate cases. Rajesh Kumar of Ambala City was arrested for waylaying, assaulting and threatening Sagar, a local resident,  near the Congress Bhawan in Ambala City on July 8. The suspect was sent to judicial custody by the local court. In another case, Jaspreet Singh of Saha was arrested for assaulting and threatening Bhashi of Saha. The suspect was produced before a local court, which ordered his release on bail. TNS

32-year-old man goes missing

Ambala: A resident of Saha, Parveen Kumar (32), is missing since June 26. According to information, Lal Chand reported to the police his son had left home on June 26, but did not return. The police have launched a manhunt to trace Praveen. TNS

Football trials for boys today 

Chandigarh: The Chandigarh Football Association will conduct field trials for Mir Iqbal Hussain Football Trophy at the Sector 46 Sports Complex football ground on July 23. The trials will begin at 3 pm, the sports body said here on Monday. Boys born between January 1, 2005 and December 31, 2006 will be eligible to participate in the trials. TNS

Football meet from August 2

Chandigarh: Chandigarh Football Association will organise the Senior State Women’s Football Championship from August 2-4. Players born on or before January 1, 2004, will be eligible to participate in the championship. tNS
