1 killed, 12 hurt as Innova, auto collide near toll plaza

One person was killed and at least 12 were injured when the auto-rickshaw they were travelling in collided with an Innova near the toll plaza here today.

The SUV hit the auto-rickshaw from the rear, resulting in serious injuries to its occupants. The police reached the spot after which the injured were taken to the Civil Hospital in Sector 6, where one of them was declared brought dead.

Six of the injured were referred to the PGI. All occupants of the car were in the age group of 18 to 22.

Chandimandir police station SHO Naveen Kumar said the victims belonged to a slum colony in Pinjore and were on their way to Haridwar. He said the deceased and the injured were yet to be identified and further investigations were on.

Pedestrian hit by car on Kansal road, dies

Chandigarh: In a hit-and-run case, a 33-year-old pedestrian was killed after he was hit by a Santro car on the Kansal road last night.

The victim has been identified as Bhupinder Yadav, a resident of Kishangarh. The police said the victim was working as a munshi with an advocate.

Sources said the accident was reported from near the Nayagaon turn when the victim was returning home after meeting a relative.

Two persons riding a motorcycle saw a car speeding away after hitting the victim. They immediately informed the police following which a PCR vehicle rushed to the spot. The injured was taken to Government Multi Specialty Hospital (GMSH), Sector 16, where doctors declared him brought dead.

The police have registered a case against the unknown car driver at the Sector 3 police station. The victim is survived by his wife and two children, who stay in Haryana.
