Miscreants took away a heavy vault containing around Rs 4.30 lakh from a Sewa Kendra at Nayagaon here. The matter came to light when employees of the centre reached there today.

The lock of the main door of the office was found broken. The vault was apparently dragged out through it. The police found the broken vault around 50 meters away. The miscreants left the hard disk (containing the entire backup data) in the vault.

According to an official of the kendra, the security person there had been on leave since Saturday. He added that usually, the security person slept on the premises.

A senior official at the kendra said it could be handiwork of at least four persons as the vault was very heavy.

Meanwhile, a case has been registered under Sections 457 and 380 of the IPC at the Nayagaon police station.
