Sharp hike in general, other charges by power department

The Dakshin Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam (DHBVN) has introduced a steep hike in general and miscellaneous charges for power supply, it is reported.

It has been notified in a sales circular issued on July 11. It is claimed that vide notification of the Haryana Electricity Regulatory Commission, the new charges have been made applicable from the date of the notification. As per the revision, the consumers will have to pay Rs 50 as application charges (new connection) up to the load of 2kW, while the charges will be Rs 25 per kW or part thereof, subject to the maximum of Rs 20,000 for the load of 2kW or more.

These charges, so far, had been Rs 5 for the domestic, Rs 20 for non-domestic, Rs 100 for low tension and Rs 200 for high tension connections. The meter installation charges, which used to be between Rs 50 (single phase) and Rs 300 (for three-phase meters) will now be between Rs 150 and Rs 600, respectively. The charges for three phase meter will be Rs 300, while it will be a maximum of Rs 600 for the low tension and high tension meters. Similarly, the meter inspection and testing charges have been hiked several times. The charges for the single and three phase meters (domestic), which used to be Rs 25 and 50, have been revised to Rs 100 and 200, respectively. The charges for the low tension and high tension meters (industry) have been hiked to Rs 750 and Rs 1,500 from the old rates of Rs 250 and 500, respectively.

Changing or replacing the meter will now cost Rs 200 for the single phase and Rs 300 for the three-phase meters. Earlier it was Rs 50 and 100 only. The reconnection charges (for disconnected connections) for the domestic supply will be Rs 100 (single phase) and Rs 300 (three phase), while it will Rs 200 and Rs 500 for the non-domestic ones. For low tension and high tension, it will be between Rs 750 and Rs 5,000.
