The Karnal police arrested a man for allegedly duping seven students of Rs 91 lakh on the pretext of sending them abroad. The police have recovered Rs 24 lakh and a car from his possession. Two other accused in the case are still absconding.
The main accused has been identified as Praghat Singh, a resident of Joganand village in Bathinda, while the other accused are Avtar Singh and Rajbir Parjana.
Surinder Singh Bhoria, Superintendent of Police, said Rajni Devi, who runs an IELTS study centre at Mughal Canal in the city, alleged that she had given Rs 91 lakh of seven students to Parghat Singh on being told by Avtar Singh and Rajbir Parjana, who live in Malaysia. The police registered a case under Sections 420 and 406 of the IPC and arrested Parghat Singh from Chiroa Mor on July 19. He was produced in the court and taken on police remand. Efforts are on to arrest the other accused.
