Kendriya Vidyalaya (KV) No 1, Udhampur, organised an investiture ceremony on its premises with zeal. The newly elected student council members took oath to work for the school faithfully and promised to live up to the confidence reposed in them. Principal Sumit Mehra honoured the newly elected school captains (both boys and girls).  It was followed by a march past by the newly elected council members. The principal congratulated the student council members and advised them to be role models for other students. 

IIT Jammu Training programme

A three-week Skill Development Training Programme on the topic “Enhancement of Employability Skills to Diploma Mechanical Engineers of Jammu and Kashmir” was organised by Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Jammu, on its campus in Jagti (Nagrota). A total of 35 students registered for the hands-on training, which focused on topics, such as machining practice in a lathe and milling machine, 3D printing, pneumatics, circuit design and applications etc. Interactive sessions on leadership and entrepreneurship, along with soft skill training, were also conducted for the participants during the programme. It was organised with the support of the department of technical education, J&K along with J&K Bank. IIT Jammu faculty members, namely Dr Balaganesan G and Dr RT Durai Prabhakaran, were the coordinators of the event. As many as 16 candidates were offered employment in the organisations of the state. 

ABVP submits memo to JU VC

A delegation of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) has submitted a memorandum to the Vice Chancellor, University of Jammu (JU), pertaining to the hardships being faced by students in the affiliated colleges of the university. It was mentioned in the memorandum that hostels were not available to all students and thus, new hostels should be opened for both boys and girls. The delegation claimed that despite having a fixed academic calendar, it was not being followed. JU was lagging behind all other universities where admission process was almost over. The delegation demanded new courses, such as mass communication and social work.

JU launches admission helpdesk

To guide and assist students with the admission process at the University of Jammu (JU), the department of students welfare, in collaboration with NSS campus units, launched a help desk on Monday. Prof Jasbir Singh said the achievement category forms, under different categories like NSS, NCC, sports, Bharat Scouts and Guides and cultural activities, would be received in the office of the Dean, Students Welfare, from July 26 to 31 during office timings.

Online portal for science congress

Prof Manoj Dhar, Vice-Chancellor, JU, launched the online portal of the 14th JK Science Congress (www.14jksc.in) on Monday. Prof Dhar hoped that the website would prove to be an excellent initiative to reach out to maximum researchers across the country. He further said in the JK Science Congress, eminent scientists, researchers, academicians and policy makers would attend and interact with the delegates. The Science Congress is being organised by JU from September 13 to 15 on the theme “Science and Technology for a Sustainable Future”.

Social service lecture at SMVDU

Kiran Kumar Sharma, Chairman and CEO of International Volunteer Foundation (IVF) and two-time national award winner, delivered a special lecture at Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University (SMVDU). The topic of the lecture was “Serving society with a cause”. Kiran stressed the need for volunteering among youth. He also spoke about the massive cleanliness campaign named “Save the Trikuta Mountains”, jointly organised by the NSS wing of SMVDU and IVF.
