Srinagar, July 22

Governor Satya Pal Malik on Monday regretted to have made remarks asking militants to kill the corrupt (politicians) indulging in plundering of the ‘wealth of Kashmir’ instead of killing their own people like police personnel.

The Governor had made these remarks during his visit to Kargil district of Ladakh division on Sunday. The statement had been resented by National Conference vice president and former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah.

Malik clarified on his remarks to a news agency, saying that these had been made in a “fit of anger” due to the rampant corruption in the state. “I should not have made such comments as I am the Constitutional head but what I said is my feeling on the (corruption) issue,” he told the news agency.

“Save this tweet – after today any mainstream politician or serving/retired bureaucrat killed in J&K has been murdered on the express orders of the Governor of J&K Satyapal Malik,” Abdullah tweeted hours after the Governor made the remarks.
