The fruit and vegetable market of Hamirpur is located close to my house near Dosarka  village. Sellers dump rotten vegetables in the area as it is on the outskirts. We have no option, but to live in such miserable conditions. The office of the Chairman of the Agriculture Produce Market Committee is in the same market complex, but no one has ever bothered to get the area cleaned. We urge the Deputy Commissioner to look into the matter.

Choked Sankat Mochan road

Villagers of Badai, Ghanti, Charmrog, Anji, Kiari and Ridka have been urging Shimla Deputy Commissioner Amit Kashyap not to allow parking of vehicles on the road connecting Sankat Mochan with these villages. Traffic snarls on the road on Sundays, Tuesdays and Saturdays are a routine. When there is some marriage function at the Sankat Mochan temple, things go from bad to worse. Visitors park their vehicles on both sides of the road leading to these villages. There is no policeman to regulate the traffic. We have been urging the DC to take remedial measures, but to no avail. We had to meet the DC again and he promised us to depute a policeman at the spot.

Projects hang fire in Solan

The inordinate delay in providing basic facilities to Solan residents has created a record of sorts. Work to construct a parking lot at the old bus stand has been pending for the past 23 years, while the railway road parking has taken more than 13 years to begin and even the key essential needs like a trauma centre have been pending for the past 17 years. Even Transport Nagar, which had been planned more than a decade ago, is another such project which is yet to see the light of day. The government had a  five-year plan for development, which was replaced by a three-year plan, but it seems in Solan, there is a silver jubilee plan and residents will have to wait for at least two-and-a-half decade to get the  basic facilities.

Save Shimla, let hills breathe

In November 2017, the National Green Tribunal (NGT) had directed the TCP Department and the Shimla MC to implement the Shimla Development Plan as the core area could not afford any further load. Keeping in view the deplorable condition of the town, proliferating constructions, rampant concretisation of the fragile hills, structural instability of buildings built in gross violation of norms, it is highly desirable and appropriate to take corrective measures for environment protection and impose a ban  on multi-storey buildings in the entire state. Restrict and limit the numberof stories to four and three in the lower and upper Himachal. The government should consider a new capital for Himachal, where adequate water and land are available.

Is a civic issue bothering you? Are you agitated over the lack of concern? Is there something heartening that you feel needs to be highlighted? Or a picture which in your opinion ought to be seen by many, and not just you?
