Rural Development and Panchayati Raj Minister Virender Kanwar Monday said the construction of four cow sanctuaries was underway and efforts would be made to make gau sadans self-sustaining.
He was chairing a meeting of the HP Gau Seva Ayog here. The minister said efforts would be made to convert these into gau vigyan kendras and make them self-sustaining through the sale of various products that were in great demand.
This was the first meeting of the gau seva ayog ever since it was notified in February. “We are keen on opening at least one cow sanctuary in each district,” he said.
The minister said people would be given training in preparing products from cow dung, urine and milk so that gau sadans became self-sustaining. He said the thrust would be on encouraging people to rear indigenous species of cows.
He said a proposal had been made to facilitate online and app-based donations for the development and upkeep of gau sadans and get them exempted from income tax.
