Anganwadi workers seek pension

Members of the Anganwadi Workers’ Union have announced that if their demands will not be met this month, they will launch a massive protests from August 1. Lately, a national-level convention of the union was held in Jalandhar where scores of workers and helpers had gathered.

The workers have also been asking from the state government that it must release its share of 40 per cent in the hike of their salaries.

They said in October 2018, the Central Government had announced a hike of Rs 1,500, of which 60 per cent share was to be contributed by the Centre and the remaining by the state government.

“But the state government has refused to extend us our share, we have also written letters, addressed to the Prime Minister and the Chief Minister, and handed over a memorandum to the District Programme Officer (DPO) while holding a rally at Desh Bhagat Yadgar Hall,” said the members of the union.

Addressing the gathering, leaders of the union said the Anganwadi workers were being exploited across the country. They said the workers and helpers, under the Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS), were working to save children from malnourishment and safeguarding them.
