Healing touch for drug addicts

The district administration has set up a healing forest at OOAT Clinic and Government Rehabilitation Centre Bhagupur (Patti) for drug addicts. Deputy Commissioner Sandeep Rishi while inaugurating the forest said it was a concept of Dr Jaspreet Singh, Medical Officer of Rehab Centre Bhagupur.

The district administration has set up a healing forest at OOAT Clinic and Government Rehabilitation Centre Bhagupur (Patti) for drug addicts. Deputy Commissioner Sandeep Rishi while inaugurating the forest said it was a concept of Dr Jaspreet Singh, Medical Officer of Rehab Centre Bhagupur. The forest has been set up in five acres in Punjab region. More than 65 species of trees, including timber, fruits and medicinal plants would be planted. Organic vegetable farm, floral (cultivation) garden, herbal park too would be seen here. It would create enrich environment with the motive to rehabilitate drug addicts by connecting them to nature and also to train them vocationally, said Dr Jaspreet Singh. A small water body is built here which would support aquatic life and plants. These would act as water source for flora and fauna, climate moderator and water recharge point. 

Marital ties under threat  

The Chohla Sahib police found the body of a 28-year-old woman of Tur village and her one-and-a-half-year-old baby girl, a few days back from a canal. The husband of the deceased woman was a poor labourer while the woman was a spendthrift, leading a luxurious life. Inspector Manoj Kumar, SHO, said, the woman’s lavish lifestyle forced her to develop illicit relations with neighbour, which resulted in the death of woman and her minor daughter.  A few days back three members of a family of Chohla Sahib town were booked for abducting a teenage girl from the same township as they were allegedly in love with the girl. Lovepreet Singh (20) of Thathgarh village died as he was mercilessly beaten up by four youths of the same village. The deceased was in love with a girl of the same village, while her relatives were against it. Badly injured Lovepreet was admitted to a hospital where he died during treatment. Kulwant Kaur (25) of Chahal village died under mysterious circumstances as her husband was involved in illicit relationship with some other village woman. The husband of the deceased has been booked by the police. In another case, a woman from well-off family of a nearby village claimed that her father used to exploit her sexually at the very early age. She said as a result I could not adjust at my in-laws’ house. In Nagoke village, under Khadoor Sahib subdivision, a youth tied knot with his sister and the Punjab and Haryana High Court registered the marriage.

Honour for soccer player   

Sukhraj Singh, a member of the Indian football team, who played in the recently held American Football Tourney at Italy, was honoured by the panchayat of Sarhali Khurd village. The team got silver medal in the tournament. Sukhraj Singh is a BA (III) student of DAV College, Jalandhar. Gurwinder Kaur Randhawan, principal of Sri Guru Arjun Dev Khalsa Senior Secondary School, Tarn Taran, congratulated Sukhraj Singh over his performance.
