ABOHAR: A motorcyclist was killed as a private bus reportedly hit the two-wheeler near Sayeedwala on the highway here on Sunday. The deceased was later identified as Inderjeet Singh of Middha village in Muktsar.

The deceased was later identified as Inderjeet Singh of Middha village in Muktsar. Inderjeet had Jamun orchards at Sappanwali village and was returning after selling the produce at Abohar. A case has been registered. The body was shifted to the Civil Hospital here for a postmortem. OC

Rs 8-lakh ornaments stolen

Malout: Thieves struck a house at Patel Nagar here on Sunday and decamped with gold ornaments worth Rs 8 lakh. Lakhwinder Kaur said when she returned to her house in the afternoon, she found it ransacked. Gold ornaments and some other belongings were missing. The Malout (City) police have started investigation. TNS

37-year-old man shot dead  

Muktsar: Two bike-borne men reportedly shot dead 37-year-old Chamkaur Singh at his residence on the Goneana road here on Sunday. Sources said Chamkaur, who had been facing some criminal cases, was sitting in the courtyard of his house when the attackers opened fire at him. Three bullets reportedly hit Chamkaur. He died on the spot. TNS

Jobless teacher ends life 

Bathinda: A TET pass unemployed teachers' union leader Jagsir Singh on Sunday ended his life by hanging from a ceiling fan in his house at Chak Bhake village in Mansa district. He was reportedly under stress that despite holding many educational qualifications, he was unemployed. The TET Pass Unemployed BEd Teachers' Union alleged that the "anti-teacher" policy of the state government forced Jagsir Singh to end his life. tns

Labourer electrocuted

Ropar: A labourer was electrocuted when he was installing a grill on the roof of a house on the Railon road here on Saturday. The landlord identified as Sukhwinder Singh (62) also got injured in the incident. The incident took place when Surinder Kumar (52) was installing a grill on the roof and the grill came in contact with high tension power supply wires passing over the house leading to his death on the spot. The landlord, who was holding the grill, got injured seriously and referred to the PGI, Chandigarh. TNS

Son, lover held for killing woman 

Abohar: The police have arrested Balkar Singh Kali, an addict of Bhangala village, and his lover Amarjot Kaur, mother of six children, of Balluana for allegedly axing his 70-year-old mother Harpal Kaur to death in a colony at Bhangala village, 16 km from here, on Friday. The duo was produced in a court which allowed custodial interrogation till July 23. The incident came to fore when neighbour Veerpal Kaur visited the house early morning and informed Harpal's other two sons who were living separately. Sadar police station incharge Ranjit Singh had been designated as investigation officer. OC
