Kin blamed for woman’s death

After the death of a 25-year-old woman of Chahal village, 35 km from here, her family has accused her in-laws of murder. Identified as Kulwant Kaur, she died after consuming poison on Thursday night.

The deceased was married to Sakattar Singh of Chahal village about a half and two years ago and the couple had a daughter.

The Sarai Amanat Khan police have lodged a report under Section 174 of the CrPC, said ASI Mohan Lal, investigating officer. He said the report was lodged on the statement of deceased’s father Subeg Singh of Kallewal.

The police said the deceased consumed some poisonous substance. Her brother Sajjan, uncle Sonu, aunts Manjit Kaur and Balwinder Kaur said that Kulwant was being harassed by her husband and in-laws unnecessarily. Her relatives were at the local Civil Hospital at the time of the postmortem examination on Saturday.

The relatives said the accused should be booked for murder. The police said that further action would be taken after a postmortem examination. — OC
