Seven women hockey players from the Khalsa Hockey Academy (KHA), under the aegis of the Khalsa College Charitable Society (KCCS), have been selected by Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) for scholarships worth Rs 79,000 each annually.

The players were selected following a rigorous selection process, including scrutiny of their national and international level contribution to hockey over the years.

KCGC honorary secretary Rajinder Mohan Singh Chhina, who felicitated the players on Saturday, hailed their performance at the national level.

He said the selected players were Reet, Navpreet Kaur, Amandeep Kaur, Neha, Simran Chopra, Kajal and Simran. Reet has already been honoured with financial assistance to the tune of Rs 80 lakh by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Haryana government recently.

Sports Director of the Academy, Kanwaljit Singh, said the financial assistance would help the budding players in their further training and personal spending as the academy is funding the entire cost of boarding and lodging apart from their education at Khalsa College.

At least four players from the academy are part of the national hockey team and are under training at the national camps.
