Amritsar, July 20

Even a moderate rain left posh localities and low-lying areas of the city waterlogged on Saturday afternoon. The rain that lasted for around one hour exposed the poor drainage system in the city. Besides, it also brought respite from heat.

The rain led to the overflowing of sewerage lines at the bus stand, MM Malvia Road, Majitha Road, Batala Road, Putalighar, GT Road, SSSS Chowk and several areas of the walled city. Several vehicles took an abrupt halt on roads due to waterlogging.

Even after the stopping of showers, traffic jams continued across the city. The rainwater also accumulated in parking lots.

Hardeep Singh, a resident of the low-lying area near the bus stand, said, “The MC is not learning a lesson from its past mistakes.” — TNS
