Bathinda, July 19

The Punjab Students’ Union (PSU) staged a protest outside the office of principal of Government Rajendra College.

Principal of the college Jyoti Parkash termed the protest unauthorised. He said the protesters have not obtained required permission for the protest. Police were called to the college authorities, as a PCR vehicle was seen parked inside the college premises.

Around 70 students led by union’s state committee member Sangeeta Rani demanded that PTA fund shouldn’t be collected from student belonging to SC category at the time of admission, as Post-Matric Scholarship scheme restricts the colleges from charging any such non-refundable fee from these students.

Sangeeta Rani said, “The PTA fund shouldn’t be charged from any SC category applicant as it is non-refundable. Under the Post-Matric Scholarship scheme, any such non-refundable fee can’t be charged from SC category students. If our demands are not met, we will intensify this protest.”
