Alertness of a watchman at Modern Housing Complex (MHC), Mani Majra, helped in averting a theft incident on the intervening night of July 17/18.

Sources said an unknown person had stolen batteries from around 10 motorcycles parked at MHC. However, before he could flee with the batteries a watchman identified as Gopi chased him following which the accused left the bag containing batteries at the spot and escaped from the spot.

“Around 2.30 am, Gopi saw a suspicious person escaping with a bag. He asked him to stop, however, the accused did not stop after which Gopi chased him following which the accused ran away after leaving the stolen batteries,” said a police official.

The matter came to light in the morning when the vehicle owners found the batteries stolen. They informed the police that investigated the matter. A case has been registered against an unknown person at the Mani Majra police station.

Meanwhile, Inspector Ranjit Singh, SHO at the Mani Majra police station, rewarded the watcman for his alertness.
