The Punjab and Haryana High Court today issued notice to Punjab Director-General of Police in an alleged illegal detention case by Kharar CIA staff.

Taking up the petition, Justice Tejinder Singh Dhindsa also put the Punjab Bureau of Investigation on notice.

Taking up the petition filed against the State of Punjab and other respondents by Karn Singh through counsel Pradeep Virk, Justice Dhindsa also fixed September 11 as the next date of hearing in the matter. The notice came after Virk, among other things, placed reliance on an audio clip in an attempt to substantiate his contentions.

Kanr Singh had filed the petition in the High Court for registration of an FIR against the incharge of Kharar CIA staff and other police personnel for alleged abduction, extortion, illegal detention and misuse of official power. Directions were also sought to hand over the investigation of the case to the Central Bureau of Investigation.

The petitioner was also seeking case under provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act against the incharge and other officers for allegedly demanding ransom for settling the matter and releasing the person concerned from illegal custody.
