Intermittent rain threw life out of gear in town today. Educational institutes, government offices and private establishments bore the maximum brunt.
Residents living in low-lying areas, including Amarpura Mohalla, Guru Nanak Nagar Pohir Road, Dehliz Road, Bank Street, Bajrang Akhara Road, Jawahar Nagar Kessar Wala Mohalla and Railway Road found their houses submerged in rainwater.
Government buildings, including Municipal Council office, police station and sub-registrar office, among others, were inundated. Attendance was low in majority of schools. The one who had to reach their destinations had to wade through knee-deep water.
Potholed roads filled with water have made commuting difficult for people. With sewers overflowing, there has been fear of disease outbreak in the town.
While some elected representatives were seen consoling residents of their respective wards, others chose to switch off their mobile phones to avoid public wrath.
The civic body officials claimed that adequate arrangements, including installation of water pumps has been made to minimise inconvenience to the residents.
