An altercation over objection to a stroll in a park led to the murder of the 22-year-old youth at Mauli Jagran on July 13. The UT police today arrested the two suspects in the case.

While Sub-Inspector Satvinder of the crime branch arrested suspect Deepak (19), a team of the Mauli Jagran police station arrested the second suspect, Sunny (21). Victim Satish Kumar, a resident of Mouli Complex, was murdered on July 13.

The police said Satish and his friend Sakib, an eyewitness to the case, were having a stroll at a park near the mosque in Mauli Jagran when the incident was reported.

Deepak and his accomplice Sunny, who were reportedly having beer in the park, asked the victim not to take a stroll in the park. “They doubted that Satish had come to the park for ‘romance’ and asked him to leave,” said a police official.

Satish got furious and caught hold of Deepak’s collar after which Deepak and his accomplice hit the victim on his head with a beer bottle. They then escaped from the spot. The police said the footage of CCTV cameras installed near the spot was scrutinised and the suspects were identified, leading to the arrest of Deepak from near the railway station.
