Karnal, July 16
To strengthen the surveillance system in the city, Karnal Smart City Limited (KSCL), a special purpose vehicle looking after the smart city project, will install around 320 more CCTV cameras at various locations in the city under the integrated command and control centre (ICCC) project of the smart city. The tender for the project has already been floated and its technical and financial bids will be opened by the end of July.
As many as 127 cameras, including 12 pan-tilt-zoom security cameras, have already been installed at 35 locations in the city. These cameras have helped the police crack various cases. In the recent Dr Rajiv Gupta murder case, these cameras helped the police crack the case in just 10 hours.
Rajiv Mehta, Commissioner of the Karnal Municipal Corporation-cum-CEO of the KSCL, said they had identified the locations in consultation with the district police to curb crime. Besides, these cameras would help the police keep a check on traffic violations.
“We have also proposed the control centre of the ICCC at Sector 12 adjoining the police control room for better coordination,” said the CEO. He said after the technical and financial bids, the electric and utility supplies would be started at the ICCC.
