Karnal, July 16

The Election Commission (EC) has issued a show-cause notice to two presiding officers for not deleting the mock poll data in EVMs before the actual voting in the Karnal Lok Sabha segment on May 12. They had, however, removed the VVPAT vote slips of the mock poll.

“At two booths, we found that the presiding officers had failed to delete the mock poll data from the control unit of the EVM before voting commenced. They had removed VVPAT vote slips. The result was declared on the basis of VVPAT slips,” said Vinay Partap Singh, Deputy Commissioner-cum-District Election Officer.

Election tehsildar Sunil Kumar said the negligent officers were Sanjay Kumar, posted at Government Senior Secondary School in Karnal’s Chochra village as incharge, and Pushpodhav Mishra, a teacher at Government Primary School in Panipat’s Narayana village.

Sanjay was a presiding officer of polling booth number 58 in the Karnal Assembly segment, while Mishra was a presiding officer of booth number 176 in Samalkha. — TNS
