Ambala, July 16
After pouring continuously for seven days, rain intensity reduced on Tuesday, giving much-needed respite to flooded pockets in Ambala district. As the district experienced light to moderate rain after short intervals during the past 24 hours, rainwater started receding in low-lying areas.
Several urban and rural areas still remained marooned for the second consecutive day. No further loss of life or property was reported on Tuesday.
Waterlogging pushed water into houses and shops. Link roads to certain villages in the district remained cut off. Incessant rain inundated parts of Ambala and several villages.
At places, villagers dug up roads and highways to make way for flooded water to flow.
The HVPN office, residential complexes and rest house in Ambala City on the Chandigarh-Ambala highway remained flooded for the second day. Police and firefighting personnel continued drainage operations in the area.
The district administration claimed that the situation was under control and its official machinery was on full alert to deal with any exigency.
