Ambala, July 14
The Directorate of Urban Local Bodies, Haryana, has accorded the administrative approval for the construction of a bank square at Capital Chowk in Ambala Sadar.
The estimated cost of the project is Rs 9,561.35 lakh. It will be constructed on 2.93 acres adjoining Gandhi Ground in Ambala Cantonment.
Speaking to The Tribune, State Health Minister Anil Vij said: “The bank square project has got the administrative approval on Friday. I have asked officials to get formalities completed and float the tender of the project at the earliest. It will be an energy-efficient and green building. There will be corporate offices on the top floor of the building. Availability of all banks under one roof will not only be convenient for customers, but it will also help in reducing traffic congestion in busy markets.”
According to the letter issued by the Directorate to the Commissioner, Municipal Corporation, the Ambala MC will take technical sanction from the competent authority before calling tenders for the work. The work would be monitored through the district-level monitoring committee.
Earlier the Municipal Corporation had sent a proposal to the state government and had also proposed to take a loan of Rs 100 crore from the Housing and Urban Development Corporation, but the government had decided to fund the project itself and the project became a part of the CM announcement. Soon after the approval given by Chief Minister Manohar Lal for the project, the Health Minister, who has been taking a keen interest in the project, had directed the Municipal Corporation to get the detailed notice of inviting tender (DNIT) of the project prepared.
Around 35 banks situated in different locations of Ambala Cantonment will come under one roof in the four-storeyed building. Besides banks, it will also have parking and food plaza facilities.
