Sangrur: The Special Task Force (STF) against drugs has arrested a person with 30-gm heroin. "Our team arrested Vikas Kumar on Saturday from near Mangwal village and confiscated 30-gm heroin from his possession. We have registered a case and started further investigations," said Ravinder Bhalla, Inspector, STF. TNS

Woman alleges rape

A 40-year-old widow has alleged that she was abducted and raped at the local Dhobi Ghat locality. The victim has alleged that Bholla Singh, Karnail Singh, his wife Kanto Bai and five unidentified persons allegedly kidnapped her from the locality and Bholla Singh raped her. The woman has alleged that she was also thrashed by the accused. The accused have been booked under Sections 376, 365 and 323 of the IPC. However, no arrests have been made so far. OC

Unemployed teachers protest

Members of the Unemployed ETT and TET Pass Union protested near the residence of Education Minister Vijay Inder Singla here on Sunday. "We will intensify our agitation in coming days if the state government fails to recruit us," said Deepak Kamboj, president of the union. TNS

Nine drug peddlers nabbed

Nine peddlers were nabbed and 9,830 sedative tablets seized from them in the past 24 hours. Around 4,900 habit-forming tablets were seized as the police intercepted a motorcycle near Diwankhera village. Baljit Singh and his cousin Rina Bai of Pakki village were arrested. The police seized 3,200 habit-forming tablets from Rahul Chugh of Dablirathan village. Resham Singh of Indira Nagari and Rajesh Kumar of Nanak Nagari were nabbed with 1,180 sedative tablets and Mahabir of Narayanpura village with 550 tablets. The police seized 3 kg of poppy husk from Gurpreet Singh. Lalit Kumar of Barmer was held with opium. OC
