Labourer dies after inhaling toxic gas

A labourer died apparently after inhaling some poisonous gas inside a well at Chhat village here today. The deceased, identified as Sukhwinder Singh Sukha, had gone inside the well to repair a defunct tube well.

Sources said the incident took place when Sukhwinder entered a well to repair a tube well in the fields. When Sukhwinder did not come up after a while, another employee descended into the well to look for him and found him unconscious.

Sukhwinder was pulled out with a help of a rope and was rushed to a nearby hospital. He was referred to the Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), Sector 32, in Chandigarh where doctors declared him brought dead. The police were informed about the incident. Further probe is on, said the sources.
