80 bighas identified near Gaggal for Reliance venture

The Reliance group will explore investment in agro-horticulture sector, Jio networking, sports sector, tourist resorts and setting up mobile assembly units in Himachal. 

This was decided at a high-level meeting between members of Reliance Industries and Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur and senior officers here today.

The Chief Minister said there was immense potential of investment in agro-based industries, besides setting up controlled atmosphere stores, besides food and-fruit processing sector.

He said apple and mushroom were two major crops which required greater logistic support for better marketing and value addition. The state invited the Reliance group to invest in this sector so that the farmers could get the best knowledge about the latest techniques.

Thakur said talent identification sports centres could be established, besides exploring scope for high-altitude training centres at Dharamsala and Shimla. He also informed the delegation that the government had identified about 80 bighas at Sarah near Gaggal in Kangra district where a sports centre of excellence could be developed.  A similar centre could be set up at Mandi and Shimla. He said since about 80 per cent of population had Jio mobile service, the company should install more robust optical fibre network. He said optical fibre for large, medium and small business establishments needed to be strengthened for which the government would provide all possible help. The government would also facilitate Reliance in faster electrification of Jio tower sites.

The Chief Minister said the government had also identified a prime piece of land at Baddi in Solan district where Reliance could set up its mobile assembly units. 

Thakur said during his meeting with the Chairman of Reliance Industries, Mukesh Ambani had expressed keenness in setting up a five-star hotel at Dharamsala and the state government would ensure that land was made available.

Head of Reliance team Mahinder Nahata said it was keen to invest in agro-processing, sports and wellness sector, resort at Dharamsala.
