Srinagar, July 4

To streamline the examination system, the University of Kashmir (KU) has notified the academic calendar for the newly admitted batch asking all heads of departments and satellite campuses to follow it in letter and spirit.

After the announcement of the selection list for the new batches of different courses at the university, the classes, according to the notification issued on Thursday, are set to start from July 7. The first semester exams are to be held in November.

According to the timetable, the class work for the semester will start from July 9 for 17 weeks till November. After having a week of preparation, the exams for the semester are set to start in the second week of November.

“This is to streamline the whole system so that all departments follow the calendar and there is no delay in anything. Otherwise, it creates a lot of mess which disturbs academics at the university,” an official said.

Prof Talat Ahmad, Vice Chancellor, met Governor Satya Pal Malik two days ago to discuss the development in the university. He also stressed streamlining the examination system, particularly the sub-offices of the Ladakh division.

An official said the Vice Chancellor had informed the Governor that in order to streamline the academic calendar and to ensure timely admission of students to various postgraduate programmes, the admission test would be held twice a year till the academic schedule was restored.

While there have been a lot of complaints about a delayin examinations in many streams, the Vice Chancellor informed Malik that innovative measures were being taken to make the examination services more efficient.
